Film yang dibintangi oleh Dean-Charles Chapman, George MacKay, Daniel Mays, serta Colin Firth tersebut mengalahkan film nominasi lainnya, yaitu Joker, The Two Popes, The Irishman, dan Marriage Story.
Mengutip Detik (6/1/20), dalam ajang Golden Globe Awards ke-77 itu, Sam Mendes juga berhasil memenangkan kategori Best Director-Motion Pictures. Selain itu, 1917 juga mendapat nominasi dalam Best Original Song.
1917 berkisah tentang dua tentara Inggris ketika Perang Dunia I mendapat misi rahasia mengirimkan pesan penting. Sam Mendes yang juga menulis skenario film mendapat inspirasi dari penuturan kakeknya yang merupakan seorang tentara perang dunia pada 1917.
Sementara itu, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood garapan Quentin Tarantino memenangkan Film Musikal Komedi Terbaik. Sedangkan Aktor Terbaik jatuh pada Joaquin Phoenix dan Aktris Terbaik jatuh pada Renee Zellweger.
